New Orleans Saints (8-2) at Atlanta Falcons (2-8)
Matchup to Watch: Jimmy Graham vs. Falcons linebackers and safeties
- Atlanta’s defense has been a pushover all season, but the part of the field they have had the most trouble defending has been the middle, getting gashed against the run. The Falcons have Sean Weatherspoon, who has been in and out of the lineup all year, and a host of young no name linebackers, which has led to constant struggles from that unit. Atlanta’s safeties have bigger names and better resumes, but the combination of Thomas DeCoud and William Moore has been a big disappointment. Jimmy Graham’s stats the past two games have been a tad below the otherworldly level he was producing at the beginning of the year as he adjusts to his injury, but he has to be ready to feast on these two levels of the Atlanta pass defense. Graham, as long as he is healthy enough to take plenty of snaps, should have a field day against both the young and unproven linebackers, and the disappointing safeties for the Falcons.
- This matchup looks nothing like the juicy one NFL Network probably thought it was getting at the beginning of the season. The Falcons look to have given up on the season, and seem perfectly content to blame injuries for an abysmal on the field product. Might a home game against their arch rivals be enough to muster up a prideful performance that a veteran locker room like the Falcons should have in them? Certainly, but the Falcons have been so bad recently, counting on it would be foolish. Atlanta does not have the defensive personnel to slow down the Saints on offense, nor the horses on offense to charge past a Saints defense that is at least solid.
